SYLLABUS :: Spring 2005

Graphic Production, simply put is a series of steps for creating a printed product, from the conception and execution of a design through editing and production of the finished product. In many cases, each step of the graphic production process is preformed by a different professional. To achieve the best product possible, everyone contributing to the process has to be able to communicate effectively with one another.

Pre-Press Production for Graphic Designers

Design and concept are just the beginning. Strong production skills are also an essential to the graphic designer! Getting work from the screen to ink on paper is a daunting task even for the experienced designer. In this intense five-class workshop we discuss troubleshooting tips, font caveats, alien formats, PDF's and other printing snafus. More importantly, you will experience the entire print production process from pre-press to your own final set of printed pieces. Learn how to prepare, proof and release files by actually being part of a group project that gets prepared and actually printed on a commercial printing press here at U Arts.

Class Format
Class will be divided in two parts. The first half of the class will be lectures and demonstrations. The second half will be dedicated to developing your project to be printed.
