SYLLABUS

Course Objectives
Introduce students to the techniques, methods and media employed in architectural practice to convey design concepts

Develop an appreciation for the integration of design and graphic compositional skills.

Introduce a basic set of presentation skills that will make students more effective in their studio work and in professional practice.

Expose students to both hand drawn and computer assisted design techniques. Help them to understand how they can be integrated.

Provide students with a body of work to be included in an architectural portfolio.

Grading Crieria
A total of seven (7) projects will be assigned over the course of this term. Each assignment will be worth either 10% or 20% of your final grade for the course.

1: Pencil & Marker Rendering 10%

2: Rendering with Illustrator 10%

3: Model Making 20%

4: Plan Graphics & Addition 10%

5: 2 Point Perspective 10%

6: Addition Perspective 10%

Final Project: Presentation 20%

The remaining 10% of your grade will be based on your PARTICIPATION, EFFORT and IMPROVEMENT.

Project assignments will be graded based on their accuracy, completeness, cleanliness and composition. Specific criteria will be listed on each Project assignment sheet during the term.

NOTE:
Assignments submitted after the due-date will be reduced by one (1) letter grade. Assignments will not be accepted more than one (1) class after they are due.

Attendance
A sign-in sheet will be posted on the wall for the first 15 minutes of each class. Please be sure to sign-in when you arrive. Other attendance policies are as follows:

Perfect Attendance Lowest Project Grade raised one letter

Late to Class (15 minutes or more) _ an Absence

Three (3) Absences Final Grade lowered one letter

Six (6) Absences Mandatory Failure

Students are expected to abide by all provisions of the Student Code of Conduct, published annually in the Student Handbook.

E MAIL and Course work
We will use e-mail a substantial amount to communicate during this course. You must have an active CCP or other e-mail account which you check regularly for announcements and other information regarding this course. You can obtain e-mail accounts free from hotmail.com or yahoo.com.

If you miss a class, it is YOUR responsibility to acquire any handouts are other materials from other students in the class.

Required Material
The following is a list of supplies needed for this course. They are available for purchase as a kit at Utrecht at 2020 Chestnut Street only. The kit costs approximately $85.00.

1 - 9 x 12 sketchbook (spiral bound)
3 shts - 20" x 30" white foam board (3/16" thick)
1 pad - 11 x 17 Pad of 1000 H Drafting Vellum (50 shts)
1 shts - 30" x 40" grey chipboard (1/16" thick)
1 pack - Drafting Dots
1 each - Prismacolor Markers
(6 total - Scarlet Lake, True Blue, Walnut, Cool Grey 90%, French Grey 40%, Forrest Green)
2 - Sanford SHARPIE Twin-Tip Pens (Black)
1 each - Prismacolor Pencils
(6 total - Indigo Blue, True Blue, Aquamarine, Terra Cotta, Jasmine, Cool Grey 70%)
2 - Sanford UNI-BALL Micro Pens (Black)
1 - 24" Alum Straightedge with cork backing
1 pack - X-Acto Blades (#11 blades)

The next list of supplies you should have already purchased for ARCH 109. You will need them for this course as well.

1 - Utility Knife with blades
1 - 12" Roll of Tracing Paper (50 yards)
1 - small or medium bottle white glue
1 box - small "T" pins
1 Can - of 3-M Spray Mount
1 - X-Acto Knife (#1 Model)

The following are required materials that can only be purchased at local office supply stores (Staples or Office Depot).

2 - Pentel SIGN Pens (Black) 1 pack Hunt Quikstick Foam Boards (20" x 30")
2 - Blank CD's for file storage

Reproduction Costs
Several projects this term require you to spend additional money for scans or reproductions of your work. I would allocate between $30 and $50 for this work.
